Cheap Educational Software or Best Educational Software: How Do You Choose?
By AufiBonne
Educational software comes in two varieties: Cheap, and not so cheap! Most people are interested in the former category. However another factor is on the peoples' minds... they don't want to pay money for a piece of trash (even if it is cheap). That's where I come in!
Software is a very wide field. Lots of different options out there can intimidate even the most casual of shoppers. Some of the best advice I can give is to read up on other people's opinions. Nothing beats the honest opinion of someone who was once in the same position as you are. Blogs, software review sites, magazines, friends, family, all of these can be instrumental in making sure you make the right choice.
Pay attention to the general sense of design in the screenshots of the software. Aesthetics are a tricky field, and I don't mean to say that products with lacking visual appeal will be bad, but that If a product is strong enough to appeal to the senses, it will probably be appealing in other ways as well, as visual appeal can be the trickiest thing to get right. So keep your eyes out for software that looks well put together. They say don't judge a book by its cover, but with some things, you can!
You can look at the publisher as well, if they have put out other products that have been well received by the press and the public, there is a good chance that this one will be as well. Producers and developers with impressive track records show that they are a mainstay in the industry, they've got what it takes to go all the way!
Now a lot of people give me strange looks when I mention it, but logo says a lot about a company! A sloppy logo means a sloppy product. The logo is a visual icon that the company is choosing to represent them. If they don't put much care into that, they either have a very poor business sense, which isn't good, or they don't care about their company, and that's no good either. A good logo doesn't mean that the product will be good, but it's a good start!
