Software for Kids: Developing Creativity at an Early Age

Kids have so much creativity that's just trying to get out. They're bursting at the seams with it! Many parents keep their kids sitting in front of the television or playing their video games, and these can contribute to socialization and in their own ways prepare your kid for the world, but there are other options out there that can really create a creative spirit in your little ones. Let them use what they've already got. childhood doesn't last forever!

Lots of computer software is designed as a distraction, but there exists some that servers a nobler purpose! Educational software is a helpful tool that shouldn't be underestimated. It engages with the creative or learning parts of the brain, and gets those areas their much needed exercise, and makes the whole thing fun!

Software such as The Fantastic Contraption can develop problem solving skills in kids. It presents them with a task that must be accomplished, and leaves it up to the kids to solve it in their own ways. They can explore and interact with the game world and learn what works and what doesn't, and eventually come up with their own solution.

Other software for general design is useful, but the user interface can be a big hurdle to get over. Most design software is designed for professionals, and so kids have a hard time navigating the options. An open canvas is nice, letting the kid fill it with their own creativity. Koobits is a good option here, because it is so easy to use, and still offers plenty of options for kids to play around with.

Video games (check the rating to make sure its appropriate for your kid!) can also be invaluable tools in development. Just make sure your kid doesn't spend all their time on those things. Moderation is the important thing!
